Why We Commit Wholeheartedly to God?
Commitment is not compliance, involvement or interest
Luke 9:57-62 (NLT)
There was the eager disciple (Luke 9:57)
There was the reluctant disciple (Luke 9:59)
There was also the someday disciple (Luke 9:61),
What Jesus seeks is the now disciple (Luke 9:62).
Hebrews 12:2 (NIV)
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
1. We are and will be defined by our commitments
There are three different levels of commitment:
a. We begin with future commitments.
b. We are tested by present commitments.
c. We are defined by our past commitments.
COMMITMENT: Staying true to a worthy decision long after the emotion of making that decision has passed.
2. Choosing commitment in the face of conflict and difficulties produces character and a deeply rooted hope in the promises of God
Romans 5:3-5 (NIV)
Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; [4] perseverance, character; and character, hope. [5] And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
3. Commitment always comes before, and opens the door to achievement
Deut. 30:20 (NLT)
Choose to love the Lord your God and to obey him and commit yourself to him, for he is your life. Then you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."
When it comes to commitment there are only four types of people:1. COP-OUTS. These are people who have no goals and commit to nothing.2. HOLD-OUTS. These are people who don’t know if they can reach their goals, so they are afraid to commit to trying.3. DROP-OUTS. People who start toward a goal but quit when the going gets tough.4. ALL-OUTS. These are people who set goals, commit to reach them, and pay the price to get there.4. Our Christian life can only mature and be deeply satisfying when we choose to commit wholeheartedly to following God
Acts 20:24 (NLT)
But my life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God's wonderful kindness and love.
