Turning to Face God
Genesis 32:30 (NLT) Jacob named the place Peniel (which means "face of God"), for he said, "I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been spared." Exodus 33:20 (NIV)
But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”
Exodus 33:11 (NIV) The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend. Deuteronomy 34:10 (NIV) Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,
Seeing God face to face is a dangerous exception in the Old Testament but a
privilege we can access today
Psalm 17:5 (NLT)
Because I am righteous, I will see you. When I awake, I will see you face to face and be satisfied.
To see the face of God means to have direct access to His immediate presence
Psalm 31:16 (NIRV) Let your face smile on me with favor.
1. Turn to God, face to face Psalm 119:58 (NIV) I have sought your face with all my heart
2. Never leave a devotion or worship opportunity without having turned to God, face to face Psalm 4:6 (NIV) Many are asking, "Who can show us any good?" Let the light of your face shine upon us, O LORD. Psalm 27:8 (NIV) My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek. Psalm 44:3 (NIV) It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them.
Take our time with God to the next level - learn to look at Him face to face.
John 14:9 (NLT) Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father!
3. When we direct our gaze to the face of God or His immediate presence, even our inner spirit and face begins to be transformed
2 Cor. 3:16-17 (NLT), 18 (NAB)
But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 "All of us, gazing with unveiled face on the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit"
2 Cor. 3:16-18 (Msg) Whenever, though, they turn to face God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there they are—face-to-face! They suddenly recognize that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We're free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.
