I WANT TO GET MADE
A Life Reflecting the Character of the Foundation
1 Corinthians 3:10-15 (NIV)
1. A life built on multiple foundations will deteriorate and collapse. (v. 11)
- The character of each foundation will determine whether your life will remain upright or will crumble to the ground.
- Different foundations cannot be mixed together because of different compositions.
- The only true foundation that will keep your life in righteous standing is Jesus Christ.
2. The quality of your life must be appropriate to the foundation of Jesus. (vv. 12-13)
· The concern here is both with the building materials = your life choices, and the builder = your personal character.
· Who you are will always determine what you will do; what you do will always determine what your life will look like.
· God’s day of judgment will soon come to determine your “building” – How have you built your life?
· Your life accomplishments will be exposed according to God’s perspective, not yours.
· Spiritual principle: Having Jesus as your foundation does not automatically mean you will live according to his standards.
3. A life that reflects the foundation of Jesus Christ will stand because it emerges from a faith in God. (v. 14)
- Such a life will be rewarded because it mirrors the purposes of God.
4. But, a life that does not reflect the foundation of Jesus Christ means a life’s work without any eternal value. (v. 15)
- This has nothing to do with your salvation; salvation is by grace alone.
- Yet a saved life could also exhibit no productivity; it’s a life that has made no transformative impact.
