The Skill of Teach-ability - 1 Sam. 15

Proverbs 6:10-11 (NLT)

A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— and poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.

1 Samuel 15:2-3, 9 (NLT); 1 Samuel 15:26 (NLT)

TEACH-ABILITY KILLERS

1.  Denial

1 Samuel 15:13-14 (NLT)

When Samuel finally found him, Saul greeted him cheerfully. "May the Lord bless you," he said. "I have carried out the Lord's command!"  "Then what is all the bleating of sheep and lowing of cattle I hear?" Samuel demanded.

Proverbs 30:20 (NLT)

Equally amazing is how an adulterous woman can satisfy her sexual appetite, shrug her shoulders, and then say, "What's wrong with that?"

2 Tim. 3:5 (NLT)

They will act as if they are religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. You must stay away from people like that.

The cure for denial is repentance

2. Blaming

1 Samuel 15:15 (NLT)

"It's true that the army spared the best of the sheep and cattle," Saul admitted. "But they are going to sacrifice them to the Lord your God. We have destroyed everything else."

The cure for blaming is humility

Proverbs 22:4 (NLT)

True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life.

1 Peter 5:6 (NLT)

So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and in his good time he will honor you.

Matthew 23:12 (NLT)

But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

Another cure for blaming is self-adjustment

3. Image

1 Samuel 15:30 (NLT)

Then Saul pleaded again, "I know I have sinned. But please, at least honor me before the leaders and before my people by going with me to worship the Lord your God."

The cure for maintaining our image at all cost is trusting God.

Proverbs 29:25 (NLT)

Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but to trust the Lord means safety.
