1. The love of Jesus reflects a committed sacrificial offering. (vv. 16-18)
- Jesus went all the way to his death to show how much he truly loves us.
2. But, we must personally recognize and accept Jesus’ love in our lives. (vv. 19-22)
- Just because the truth is in front of us does not mean that we will embrace it wholeheartedly.
3. We find the love of Jesus right in the middle of human egoism. (vv. 23-24)
- Jesus’ love is perfectly revealed when human self-centeredness is at work.
- Jesus’ love does not react negatively when life has gone out of control; instead, it remains in a humble and forgiving manner.
4. For those of us who have accepted Jesus into our lives, Jesus desires us to love others unconditionally. (vv. 25-27)
- A Christian life no longer encompasses a self-seeking heart.
- Instead, a Christian life puts others ahead of himself or herself.
5. Jesus’ mission of love finds completion on the cross so that all of us will find completion in him alone. (vv. 28-30)
